FEIRE
I actually thought that before Desmond would completely take the step of leaving me and getting married to another woman, he would at least try to explain everything to me.
I don’t think it makes sense to claim you couldn’t talk because you were scared. I just feel he never spoke because he wanted to be wicked.
One of the greatest mistakes I made was concealing my relationship with him. If I hadn’t hidden it, it would have been easier to confront certain issues through either his friends, family or someone he was accountable to.
I made a terrible mistake.
Now, Fola is gradually revealing his feelings too.
He came through Stella who he claimed was his babe, only for her to later confess that she is actually his sister.
How would my broken heart even learn to love anyone again?
How would I leave one relationship and immediately slide into another within the twinkle of an eye?
I am tired of everything.
I honestly wish I could just leave this environment for a while.
Today would be heartbreaking already, seeing the man I once believed would become my husband getting married to another woman.
I can boldly say this is the worst birthday I have ever celebrated.
There is no celebration at all. I am only going to watch my heart shatter today.
Though Stella already told Fola she had revealed the truth to me and he still hasn’t openly expressed his feelings yet. Perhaps she also informed him about Desmond.
But trust me, it won’t be easy being in the same ceremony where the man I planned forever with is getting married to Kike.
I honestly wish something terrible would just happen today.
MOSUN
Waking up this morning and remembering everything that has happened to my friend honestly makes my heart bleed.
I don’t know, I just wish that nonsense wedding would not hold.
Not because I want my friend to still marry that idiot, but because I don’t want anything to work out well for him.
Today is Feire’s birthday and I can only imagine how she feels waking up this morning, if she even slept at all.
Anyways, I just hope she wises up and doesn’t reject Fola.
I believe God simply gathered all her pain together and decided not to make her wait forever before bringing another man her way.
It would be a complete waste of time if she refuses Fola because of the heartbreak Desmond caused.
But wait…
Desmond is actually getting married?
Hehe.
Nawa o.
Honestly, it would be fun watching the expression on his face when he sees Feire there today.
That Kike too, I don’t even know.
These people are just mad.
They will eventually collect.
I just wish nothing works out properly today.
Maybe one stray bullet should hit him while kissing the bride.
Or maybe he should just fall down and die while putting the ring on Kike’s finger.
Or maybe that one should suddenly miscarry there and expose the pregnancy publicly.
But really, would it even make sense for Desmond to marry Kike if she is carrying another man’s child?
I am not even sure I heard correctly.
KIKE
I am not wicked.
I refuse to accept that.
It is not wickedness to hide a pregnancy from an irresponsible man who would become a terrible influence on his child.
Why would he force himself on me, behave stupidly all the time and still expect to father my child?
Or perhaps my father would have eventually forced me into marriage with him because of the pregnancy.
Never.
I have always believed Desmond liked me too, so it’s not as if I am forcing anything on him.
Right?
I just hope that in future he doesn’t start hating this child because he isn’t the biological father and then place his own children above him.
Why am I even referring to the baby as a male child?
As if I already know the gender.
Today would go well, right?
I already ensured there would be tight security and no riff-raffs would be allowed into the venue to scatter my day.
Someone like Uche deserves no pity.
I left Fola for him and yet he has never behaved normally all his life.
Come to think of it…
why exactly did I leave Fola?
It has been a while since I heard from him and Stella.
I actually left that man heartbroken because of this idiot called Uche.
I won’t allow him scare me and I believe today would go well.
At least security would be tight.
If he has the guts to come and disrupt anything there, he would regret it for the rest of his life.
“So Kike is getting married today, right?” Fola laughed.
“There is nothing funny there, Fola. Why are you laughing?” Stella paced around.
“Isn’t it funny that my ex is marrying Feire’s ex? I mean, this is absolutely crazy.”
“We are going, Fola.” Stella informed him.
“To where?” He shrugged.
“Now that I have told you everything and you know I already told Feire the truth, we have all planned to attend the wedding and you are coming with us.”
“Guy, if you truly like this girl the way you claim you do, maybe you should man up and be there for her through this heartbreak period. I also think we should do something special for her after the whole wedding drama. Today is her birthday.”
Fola hummed thoughtfully.
“What do you think we should do for her?”
“Just a mini party, Fola. Maybe a surprise birthday party organised by you.” She emphasized the last part.
Fola stood up immediately.
“How would that work? You just said we should attend Kike’s wedding.”
“Guy, don’t behave like this today. Why are you suddenly acting cold? It’s like your romantic life has died completely. Where are all those ideas that usually burst from your head? If you want to create a place in her heart, today is the best day to start.”
“Should I propose to her today? You know it’s her birthday. Maybe I should propose during the party?”
Stella looked away thoughtfully.
“Would that even make sense? Her ex is getting married today and another man is proposing to her that same day. Fola, do you really think that is right?”
Fola stroked his beard slowly.
“Do you think she would say no?”
“I don’t know.” Stella shrugged.
“Put yourself in her shoes, Stella. Think properly. If you were Feire and I proposed today, would you say yes?”
Stella stared at him silently, lost in thought.
“This is the first wedding I will attend that had no introduction, only wedding.” Subby picked up his singlet.
“Guy, don’t start this morning again. Are you trying to mock me? At least there is engagement this morning before the garden ceremony.” Desmond replied.
“It’s already 7am, guys. The engagement is by 8 and you people are still discussing introduction. Better hurry up.” Bayo warned while bringing out his phone to take selfies.
“What about the gifts?” Subby asked.
“I already told the driver to drop them at the hall.” Bayo replied. “That was the agreement, right?”
“Yes, thank you. Have you called him to confirm?”
Bayo nodded.
“I called him about ten minutes ago. He said everything has been delivered.”
“I just hope he didn’t scatter everything there and leave because that driver behaves like a restless human being.” Subby complained while sliding into his trousers.
“At least there is an event planner there. They would arrange everything.” Desmond replied.
“Today…” Subby started but stopped abruptly.
“What exactly do you want to say?” Desmond asked.
“Nothing.”
“Subby, talk!”
“Guy, I am done dressing and you are still shouting my name when you haven’t even worn your shoes. Meet me outside. Bayo, let’s go take shots outside.”
“Alright man.” Bayo stood up and followed him out.
Desmond raised his head and watched them leave the room.
“Today is Feire’s birthday.” He muttered quietly as the thought crossed his mind.
Feire opened the door for Mosun and Mosun immediately jumped on her neck.
“Happy birthday, baby boo!” she screamed excitedly.
Feire staggered slightly while trying to hold her properly.
“Thank you darling. But do you want to kill me?”
Mosun planted a peck on her cheek and held both her hands while praying for her.
“Thank you, but these your prayers are becoming too much.”
“Prayers can never be too much, Feire. How are you feeling?”
“I am good. I felt bad earlier this morning, but I am better now. I won’t allow anybody spoil my day.”
Mosun smiled while shutting the door behind them as they walked towards the bed.
“Has he called you?” she asked.
Feire shook her head.
“He should be busy with his wedding preparations.” She grinned faintly.
“Will you really be able to attend the wedding like this?”
She shrugged.
“Why not? I am a strong woman.” She winked.
Mosun laughed.
“This is the only period in your life when you usually have sense. So what happens after the wedding? Are we going out or what?”
Feire shook her head.
“I don’t know. I don’t think I want to do anything afterwards. I think we should just come home, eat and rest.”
“I guess Stella and Fola might also come around after the wedding.”
She shrugged again.
“Then all four of us can stay here instead of going out.”
“What if you raise your hand when they ask if anybody objects to the wedding?”
Feire burst into laughter.
“You are never serious. Why would I do that?”
Mosun frowned.
“Yes, why not? Weren’t you his legal babe before this goat came to hijack him?”
“No one can hijack anybody, dear. You can only be hijacked if you surrender yourself.”
“Anyways, that is true. But what if the wedding eventually doesn’t hold? Would you feel bad?”
Feire narrowed her eyes.
“Why wouldn’t it hold?”
“I am scared that guy might come and cause trouble today. Honestly, I am eager for the drama that might happen.”
Feire laughed.
“He won’t do that.”
“You were not there the day that…” She stopped abruptly and placed her index finger on her lips. “What if he raises his hand during the objection part and claims ownership of the pregnancy?”
“What!”
THE WEDDING
The chairs were already properly arranged.
Though Desmond and Kike agreed on a garden wedding, the place still looked exceptional.
They had already agreed to hold both the wedding service and reception at Hales Garden because according to church rules, she wouldn’t be allowed to wed inside the church auditorium due to the pregnancy.
Honestly, Kike had always preferred that arrangement anyway.
She always imagined a wedding close to a beach where the pastor joins both husband and wife together before everyone flows naturally into the reception.
The engagement ceremony had ended already and guests were gradually filling the seats.
Kike had strictly instructed security not to allow anybody without an invitation into the garden and her heart kept praying that everything would go exactly as planned.
As they arrived at the venue, she sat quietly inside her father’s Range Rover while scanning the crowd from afar, checking carefully if Uche or his sister were present.
She wanted no drama that morning.
“Kike.”
She heard her father call and turned towards him.
“Are you scared?” he asked.
She smiled faintly.
“No, I’m not.”
“The service will start anytime from now, dear. I honestly don’t know what else to say to you, my darling daughter.”
He paused briefly as tears gathered in his eyes.
“It is a joyful thing, but difficult letting my daughter go.”
Kike smiled.
“Dad, stop this. You know you have to keep smiling and looking good while walking me down the aisle.”
He laughed immediately.
“There is no aisle here, only grass.”
Both of them laughed.
“I will miss you too, Dad.” She held his hand gently.
Then they heard the sound of instruments announcing the entrance of the officiating ministers and the groom — Desmond.
Feire, Mosun, Stella and Fola had already found comfortable seats.
They entered with Mosun’s invitation card and sat together.
Feire raised her eyes from the wedding pamphlet to watch the groom and his men enter.
She smiled faintly.
Desmond didn’t see her.
Probably because it never crossed his mind that Feire could have found out anything, especially after Kike assured him that security had been tightened and nobody without an invitation would enter.
He forgot that invitations were distributed in the office and Mosun naturally had access to one.
Desmond stood beside his decorated chair while Bayo stood behind him as the best man.
After that, Mosun stood up briefly to answer a phone call before returning to her seat just in time for the bride’s entrance.
It was Kike.
Her boss.
They had not been wrong after all.
Mosun glanced at Feire occasionally to ensure she wasn’t breaking down emotionally.
Surprisingly, she remained calm.
The pastor commenced the service after Kike’s father handed her over.
Soon, the vows were about to begin.
And then the important question came.
“IS THERE ANYONE HERE WHO HAS ANY REASON WHY THE HOLY SOLEMNIZATION BETWEEN DESMOND OLAMIDE AND KIKELOMO MARY SHOULD NOT PROCEED? SPEAK NOW OR FOREVER HOLD YOUR PEACE.”
Kike’s heart pounded immediately.
She looked into Desmond’s eyes and his eyes remained fixed on hers.
No hand went up.
The pastor repeated the announcement a second time and paused briefly again.
Still no hand.
Both Desmond and Kike relaxed slightly.
Kike had scanned the audience earlier and neither Uche nor his sister seemed present.
Desmond slowly raised his head from the ground towards the audience and his eyes suddenly met Mosun’s.
He froze instantly.
Mosun simply grinned at him.
He quickly looked away.
Then he turned again—
and realised there was someone else seated beside her.
He didn’t want to shift his eyes further because he already knew who he would see.
But the moment he moved his gaze slightly—
his eyes locked with Feire’s.
And he froze completely.
Everything around him suddenly disappeared.
He saw Mosun earlier and panicked.
Now seeing Feire…
he couldn’t even describe what he felt anymore.
It felt as though burning coal had been placed beneath his feet.
She wasn’t smiling.
She wasn’t frowning either.
She simply looked like someone who reminded him of a movie character immediately—
the lead actress in Acrimony.
He heard the pastor make the pronouncement for the final time while his eyes remained fixed on her.
Deep inside, he prayed desperately that she wouldn’t raise her hand and destroy everything.
Then suddenly from somewhere close to where Feire sat, a hand slowly went up.
It was UCHE.
